Make a Difference
The Associate Domain Engineer is responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and resolving technical assurance issues related to Telstra’s broadband customer premises equipment (CPE), with a specific focus on Wi Fi performance validation and standards based testing.
The role supports Telstra’s broadband device lifecycle by ensuring Wi Fi performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards, and requires specialised technical skills in Wi-Fi lab testing, automation driven validation, and broadband firmware analysis.
Key Responsibilities
This is how you’ll bring the purpose of your role to life.
Perform standards based Wi Fi performance validation on Telstra broadband devices prior to release
Execute automated and manual Wi Fi test cycles across multiple firmware versions
Analyse Wi Fi performance data and diagnose root causes of failures or inconsistencies
Conduct regression testing across firmware releases and compare results against baseline performance
Validate vendor supplied test results against internal laboratory methodologies
Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external vendors to resolve technical issues
Document test results, defects, and remediation actions using approved systems and processes
Support agile delivery through sprint based execution and structured defect management
Required Systems, Tools & Platforms
TR 398 Issue 3 test suite for Wi Fi performance validation
OctoScope / Octobox RF test systems and automated chamber environments
IxChariot for throughput, latency, MU MIMO, and rate vs range testing
PAL 7 test stations for Wi Fi 6 and Wi Fi 7 validation
Jira (AMP / BBDS) for defect tracking, test evidence, and sprint delivery
Required Technologies & Technical Expertise
Wi Fi standards: 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi Fi 6), 802.11be (Wi Fi 7)
MU MIMO, spatial streams (2SS / 4SS), and multi link operation (MLO)
Broadband CPE firmware validation on Telstra Smart Modem platforms (e.g. TSM4 MR2 / MR3)
Chamber based OTA testing, rate vs range analysis, and throughput benchmarking
Comparative analysis of internal and vendor laboratory results
Methodologies & Ways of Working
Standards driven validation against TR 398 requirements
Root cause analysis across firmware, hardware, and test automation layers
Regression testing and performance comparison across software releases
Cross vendor technical collaboration and troubleshooting
Agile delivery practices including sprint execution and defect triage
About you
To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:
Degree qualification (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Telecommunications, Networking, or a related discipline
Hands on experience with Wi Fi testing, RF lab environments, or broadband device validation
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Experience with automated test systems and performance analysis tools
Ability to clearly document technical findings and test results
Strong communication and collaboration skills
