Assistant Scientist
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Scientist to support the Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems (UGOS) Consortium. The selected candidate will contribute to research at the intersection of oceanography and fisheries, with a focus on larval dispersal, recruitment, and connectivity in the Gulf of Mexico.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS The successful candidate will:
•Interpret and statistically analyze complex biological and oceanographic datasets
•Develop and test hypotheses related to physical-biological interactions and recruitment variability
•Conduct simulations using coupled physical-biological models for larval dispersal
•Collaborate with academic and federal researchers across the UGOS Consortium
•Present research at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Ph.D. in physical oceanography or related field
•At least 1 year of relevant postdoctoral experience
•Strong background in oceanographic modeling, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
•Demonstrated programming experience including MATLAB, R and Fortran, along with experience with High Performing Computing (HPC) environments.
•Peer-reviewed publication record
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
