Position Details Position Title: Assistant Professor of Clarinet Position Type: Faculty FTE: 1.0 Benefit Eligible: Yes Secondary Employment Status: Tenure Eligible Job Summary: Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank ofAssistant Professor of Clarinet. The successful candidate will lead the clarinet studio (both music majors and non-majors), teach applied clarinet lessons, clarinet literature/pedagogy, woodwind techniques, clarinet choir, and coach chamber music. Additional responsibilities may include fundamental musicianship (i.e., music theory, ear training), jazz, musicology/ethnomusicology, and/or other areas of the candidate’s interest and departmental need. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues and assume an active role in the recruitment, advisement, and retention of music students. Expectations include maintaining consistent creative activity and contributing service to the college. Minimum Qualifications: + Master’s degree in clarinet performance + Demonstrated excellence as a clarinet performer + Demonstrated success in teaching applied clarinet at the undergraduate level + Evidence of strong interpersonal and collaborative skills as a performer, teacher, and colleague + Demonstrated success in the recruitment of music majors and non-majors to a collegiate music program and/or clarinet studio Preferred Qualifications: + Doctoral degree (or ABD) in clarinet performance + Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations + At least three years of university teaching Concordia College is NASM accredited, and the Music Department enjoys a thriving and growing student population with nearly 200 music majors (music education, performance, and composition), due in part to its excellent reputation throughout the region. The department is the single largest on campus, with more than 30 faculty and over 1/4 of the entire student body participating in vocal and instrumental lessons and ensembles. Many graduates pursue careers in music education, where the post-graduation employment rate is extremely high, while others pursue graduate degrees at leading national institutions and/or careers in performing or creative activity. The instrumental music program includes three concert bands, two orchestras, three jazz bands and a combo, chamber ensembles, and a number of other opportunities for students to engage with music as part of their undergraduate experience. In addition to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees, the department also offers a Master of Music in Music Education.
