Position Overview
The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports the Maintenance Manager in planning, coordinating, and supervising maintenance operations to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all machinery, equipment, and facilities. The role assists in managing maintenance teams, scheduling preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. The Assistant Manager acts as the maintenance lead in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Operations Management
• Assist in overseeing daily maintenance activities for mechanical, electrical, and facility-related assets.
• Support troubleshooting and repair of equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Ensure timely execution of preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
2. Team Supervision
• Supervise technicians, electricians, and contractors assigned to maintenance tasks.
• Provide technical guidance and hands-on support when required.
• Participate in performance evaluation, training, and upskilling of maintenance staff.
3. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
• Assist in developing and implementing maintenance schedules and calendars.
• Monitor equipment performance to forecast maintenance needs.
• Ensure proper documentation of all maintenance work.
4. Asset & Inventory Management
• Support management of spare parts inventory, tools, and maintenance materials.
• Ensure availability of critical spares to avoid operational disruptions.
• Maintain records of equipment life cycles and maintenance history.
5. Safety, Compliance & Quality
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and internal procedures.
• Conduct toolbox talks, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Support implementation of quality and safety improvements.
6. Budgeting & Cost Control
• Assist in monitoring maintenance expenses and optimizing resource usage.
• Recommend cost-effective solutions for repairs and replacements.
• Support preparation of annual maintenance budgets.
7. Coordination & Communication
• Collaborate with production, operations, procurement, and external vendors to ensure smooth maintenance operations.
• Respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests or equipment failures.
• Provide regular reports to the Maintenance Manager on maintenance status and performance metrics.
8. Acting as Maintenance Manager (as needed)
• Lead the maintenance department during the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
• Make operational decisions and escalate critical issues when required.
Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 3–7 years of maintenance experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, or facilities environments.
• Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
• Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is an advantage.
