Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the seasonal position of Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor– Bedford Outdoor Pool.

The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor ensures pool safety through supervision and public education. The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor also performs lifeguard duties such as checking and maintaining equipment; performing safety supervision; proactively intervening in emergency situations; providing water rescue, first aid and follow-up; maintaining in service training requirements and personal fitness levels as outlined and/or performs swimming instructor duties such as teaching lessons; educating swimmers about hazards and safety; carrying out rescues and follow-up; maintaining reports; planning special events, etc. The Assistant Lifeguard / Assistant Instructor supports persons with disabilities (e.g. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, administering medication, etc.) in programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:Holds a current Bronze Cross Award, Standard First Aid (CSA Basic) and CPR.Assistant Swim for life certification is an asset Previous experience working with persons with disabilities and supervisory skills considered an asset.Copies of qualifications must be submitted upon hiring.Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Conditions of Employment:Successful completion training requirements.Successful completion of Lifeguard Waterfront Certification and Oxygen Administration.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Seasonal - July 1st, 2026 to August 31 2026
HOURS OF WORK: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule / overtime may be required.
SALARY: Non-Union; $17.75 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay).
WORK LOCATION: 277 Shore Drive, Bedford. Work location can be changed according to operational requirements.
