Aon is recruiting an Assistant General Counsel - Employment, APAC to join our employment team in APAC, as part of Aon’s global employment law practice group.
This team is primarily responsible for providing advice and risk management support in relation to a wide range of employment law matters across all of Aon's solution lines and geographies in APAC.

What the day will look like
As Assistant General Counsel – Employment APAC, some of your responsibilities and opportunities will include:
+ Being the most senior member of the APAC employment law function. Provide strategic advice on employment contracts, restrictive covenants, investigations, terminations, equal opportunity matters, and employment aspects of organizational changes such as mergers and acquisitions. It also involves advising on AI use in talent initiatives and managing employment litigation with external counsel when necessary.
+ Responsible for working in accordance with Aon policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of required training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or reputation of any Aon Group Company.
+ Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the law.
+ Appoint and lead all aspects of the quality and fitness-for-purpose of legal advice provided by external lawyers and managing those relationships generally.
+ Provide regular case reports for management and boards; drive continuous improvement and an innovative culture around leveraging AI and digital tools across employment law practices to automate routine tasks, boosting productivity and effectiveness of the team.
+ Work on special projects and investigations with the Aon law and compliance team and lead projects to improve team know-how, systems and processes.
+ Collaborate with other functions as required to develop internal policies.
+ Provide legal and risk management training and advice to the businesses on how to mitigate or avoid employment-related risks, and minimize legal, regulatory and reputational risks. Advise on the application of Aon’s local, regional and global policies and procedures.
+ Build strong and positive relationships with key business leaders and well as other functions (People Organisation, Compliance, Internal Audit, etc.).
+ Supporting the strategic direction of the Aon Group and Legal Department on projects and initiatives that may be allocated from time to time.
How will this role be different
There is high demand for the expertise of the employment team. This team is often required to advise on pemployment legislation and regulations to ensure legal risk is managed appropriately. We need an experienced lawyer to support the team and to be responsible for the strategic management of employment matters in APAC.
The team also works alongside other shared services professionals (such as the Compliance function and the People Organisation) to ensure that employment law risk is managed as part of holistic management of risk more widely.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
+ Qualification to practise as a lawyer in a common law jurisdiction in APAC.
+ Highly proficient in the delivery of practical employment law advice and strategic and commercial solutions.
+ Experience in-house is beneficial but not required.
+ Experience of advising on more than one APAC jurisdiction is beneficial but not required.
+ Experience balancing corporate risk with commercial awareness and opportunity.
+ Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with an eye for detail.
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to gain the confidence of senior APAC leaders and peers in your team.
+ Willingness to learn about new areas of work and a logical and enquiring approach to new challenges.
+ Experience working in (or advising clients who are in) a regulated environment, including insurance, reinsurance, pensions, asset management and/or investment advisory is beneficial, but not required.
+ Aptitude for providing user-friendly legal advice, knowhow and delivery of business-facing coaching/education.
