Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, the Assistant Director of Special Education provides technical, specialized, consultative, and advisory input, and assists in the delivery of special education programs and services; provides administrative support to ensure compliance with Federal and State Special Education Regulations, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; as directed, provides service and support to schools and site administration regarding the educational program for students with identified special needs, and support for prevention and intervention programs for non-identified students considered at-risk; Provides the coordination of services to students with specialized needs; Assist in the supervision of certificated support staff (e.g. School Psychologists, Speech Therapists) and classified Special Education Assistants, and clerical staff for the Special Education Department; Assists in the monitoring of budgets and data; Assist in ccoordinating and supervising the mainstreaming of students with special needs.

Other areas of desired expertise include crisis response, trauma-informed schools, school safety planning, general education curriculum and instruction, and laws relating to the provision of special education services, education, and student and parent rights. • Pupil Personnel Services Credential or Special Education Credential • California Administrative Services Credential or Equivalent • Valid California Driver License • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance • Tuberculosis Clearance • Master’s Degree or higher in Elementary Education, Special Education or a related field, or equivalent professional experience as determined by GFUSD. • Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience (special education preferred).
