Under the general supervision of the Director of Security and Emergency Response, the Assistant Director plans, initiates, monitors, directs and coordinates programs related to security in such areas as communications, electronic security, safety, fire prevention, investigations, records management, budgeting, personnel, planning, crime analysis, quality control, training, etc. The Assistant Director coordinates the efforts of staff members in initiating and completing work assignments within the framework of Departmental objectives and priorities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Assists the Director in the coordination and evaluation of the various activities, projects, and programsReviews and coordinates plan activities, programs, practices, and operations within the departmentInitiates and implements standard security operating proceduresReviews operational procedures in compliance with authorized systems, implements changes where requiredPrepares special studies and analysis relevant to security mattersAssists in all facets of Emergency Preparedness, ensuring updated and accurate documentation of the Business Continuity and Emergency Action PlansAssists in the preparation of the Annual Safety Report, creation and dissemination of emergency notifications and timely warnings, and maintains campus crime logs in accordance with the Clery ActAssists in the production of campus vulnerability assessments and grant applicationsLiaises with local/State/Federal law enforcement to obtain intelligence on crime patterns, community events, and incidents which would otherwise cause disruptions to the daily operations of the campus and to develop training courses and exercisesParticipates in staff conferences and attends various meetings with key personnel of other corporate officersDevelops and/or process the curricula and training techniques for training of Security PersonnelConducts specific training courses and orientation seminars for students and staffWorks in conjunction with the Security and Emergency Management TeamAssumes Departmental duties in the absence of a member of the teamAssists in, and supervises, investigations related to criminal/internal compliance issuesArranges and provides training for members of the various Touro Emergency Response Teams and ensure training will:Include knowledge of characteristics of emergencies and disasters, their consequences, and implementation of emergency management programs. These programs should include information on protective measures and available support and resourcesProvide a working knowledge of ICS/NIMSProvide emergency personnel with the variety of skills necessary to help reduce or eliminate the hazards of emergencies and increase their effectiveness to respond to and recover from emergencies of all typesConducts periodic, realistic exercises, and drills to evaluate capabilities and preparedness Qualifications Education/ExperienceAn Associate's Degree or an equivalent of 60 college credits requiredA Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Safety, Public Administration or Business Administration preferred.At least 10 years of prior law enforcement experience, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience within the NYPD preferred.Prior college security experience preferred.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExperience in educational institutions preferred.Prior experience conducting ongoing mandatory training across departments required.Strong management skills required, including the ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage crisis and complex high-pressure situations objectively.Strong analytical and sound decision-making skills.Excellent communication skills (oral and written).Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Possess working knowledge of card access and CCTV systems.TravelVisit all Touro New York sites on a regular basis.Travel to various training locations as required.Working ConditionsExtensive use of computers.Extensive time sitting and standing.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Maximum Salary USD $110,000.00/Yr. Minimum Salary USD $90,000.00/Yr.
