Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an Assistant Director of Civil Infrastructure for one of our offices in Sacramento, CA.
SUMMARY:
This role will provide consistency and integration across engineering designs, standards, and technical requirements throughout all phases of project delivery. The role provides expert guidance on complex engineering issues, cost estimating, and construction support while overseeing preliminary engineering, design development, and technical alternatives. The incumbent coordinates with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with engineering requirements, interface management, and alignment with operational needs. Additionally, the position supports executive leadership by providing technical insight to inform timely and effective strategic decision-making.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensuring the engineering documents, standards, and technical requirements are consistent and coordinating engineering documentation with other functional support groupsProviding recommendations on complex issues, cost estimation, and construction supportAssisting with development, recommendation, and implementation of policies, as applicable, in relation to engineering management, engineering standards, and technical requirements, infrastructure development, system development, design, and construction support including change managementAssisting with engineering activities necessary to support planning, development, procurement, design, and construction of the projectsManaging the engineering activities of preliminary engineering, alternative technical concepts, design, and design variancesVerifying that designs are compliant with the engineering requirementsProviding functional support including interface coordination between engineering and other functions groups, coordination between Civil coordination with O&M, and assistance for implementing third-party requirementsSupporting executives on strategic matters to ensure timely and effective decision-making in relation to engineering mattersQualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.California registered Professional EngineerPreferred Requirements:
Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant disciplineExperience of senior roles in complex major projects or programsAbility to analyze and inspire innovative solutions to complex challengesAdvanced understanding of engineering management in complex and large-scale rail projects or programs from planning through preliminary engineering, detail design, construction support, and coordination with system and O&MEngineering leadership experience and roles in alternative delivery projectsExtensive experience in value engineering and configuration change managementInterface management experience between construction stages or contractors/suppliers during design and implementation phasesAdditional InformationTravel may be required for this position.
