Assistant Controller
Job Title: Assistant Controller Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This full-time, in-office position involves supporting our accounting and finance department in managing financial operations and assisting in the development of internal controls, reporting practices, and business processes. Responsibilities + Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. + Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and receipts. + Supervise daily operations of the accounting department and support staff members as needed. + Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. + Prepare and analyze monthly budget-to-actual reports, identifying variances and investigating discrepancies. + Assist with cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations. + Maintain fixed asset records and schedules, track capital expenditures, and ensure proper depreciation methods are applied. + Support in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans. + Develop, document, and improve accounting processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy. + Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls. + Assist with the preparation of tax filings and reports for external tax preparers. + Provide backup and support for payroll processing, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. + Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and operations teams to ensure accurate financial integration across business functions. + Generate ad hoc financial reports and perform special projects as assigned. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. + Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or building controls. + Advanced proficiency with SAGE accounting software, particularly SAGE 100 Contractor or SAGE 300 Construction & Real Estate. + Strong Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and financial modeling. + Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control principles. + Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. + Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. + Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills. + High degree of integrity and commitment to confidentiality. + Experience with accounting software and ERP systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in the building automation, controls, or construction industry. + CPA licensure or advanced certifications in accounting or finance. + Experience with project accounting and job costing. + Familiarity with SAGE report writing tools and integration with Excel. + Knowledge of Pennsylvania state tax regulations and compliance requirements. Work Environment This is an office-based role located in Harrisburg, PA, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and occasional overtime required during peak periods. Professional business attire is expected, and in-person collaboration is essential. The role does not offer remote work options. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
