Job Description
The Assistant Controller is a key member of the accounting team, working closely with the Corporate Controller to manage all aspects of general ledger and job cost accounting with accuracy and efficiency. This role helps guide the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to process improvement, and preferably brings experience in construction accounting, including percentage-of-completion methods.
Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to company accounting policies and internal controls in compliance with GAAP.Support the Corporate Controller in overseeing daily operations of the Accounting Department.Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing ongoing training and development.Maintain and enforce documented accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls to mitigate risk.Ensure accuracy and integrity of general ledger and job cost entries reflecting monthly activity.Lead accounting functions including billing, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger reconciliations, and journal entries across monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles.Assist in establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal policies and procedures.Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records.Oversee and provide backup support for all AP and AR processes.Perform full-cycle accounting, including monthly close and account reconciliations.Conduct balance sheet analysis and maintain monthly reconciliations.Manage fixed asset schedules and reconcile property, plant, and equipment (PPE) monthly.Prepare, record, and reconcile month-end accruals and vendor statements.Maintain and record intercompany eliminations.Review indirect and SG&A accounts for unusual or excessive activity and report findings monthly.Research and analyze variances in monthly financial statements.Prepare and coordinate business license renewals across applicable jurisdictions.Collaborate with external tax preparers for federal and state tax filings and payments.Support tax reporting and payment processes at various levels.Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.Coordinate and manage external audit and tax preparation processes.Troubleshoot and resolve transactional errors within the ERP system.Essential Skills
Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable industry regulations.Hands-on experience with Sage 100 or Sage 300 accounting software.4 to 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting roles.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office Suite, including expertise in VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.CPA certification preferred.Experience with Sage Intacct and ERP system transitions is a plus.Familiarity with ADP payroll systems is advantageous.Exposure to subcontract agreements, lien waivers, and job cost analysis is beneficial.A blend of experience in both private and public companies or public accounting is preferred.Experience managing multi-site reporting and operations is a plus.Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $135000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
