The Assistant Chief Engineer leads a high-performing 24x7 engineering team, overseeing efficient, safe operation of all building systems for two high-profile properties. Reports directly to the Chief Engineer and manages 12 Building Engineers and Maintenance Technicians. Oversee two connected but independent high-profile properties (office, amenity, retail) totaling approximately 1 million square feet, part of a 4 million square foot interconnected campus sharing critical utilities, fire/life safety systems, and building automation systems.
Schedule: Standard day shift with limited after-hours phone support and weekend confidence testing

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and develop 12-person engineering teamConduct performance evaluations, coaching, and development planningAssist Chief Engineer with training programs to expand team capabilitiesFoster culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvementResolve conflicts and performance issuesLead daily briefings and coordinate 24x7 shift coverageOperations & Technical Management
Supervise contractors and monitor performanceMaintain CMMS daily; manage tenant service requests with accountability for response times and qualityRespond to emergencies and coordinate response protocolsEnsure compliance with safety procedures and hazardous materials policiesTechnical Execution Oversee HVAC, building automation systems, plumbing, water treatment, electrical systems, lighting, and FL&S operations and maintenance.
Communication & Documentation
Communicate effectively with partner teams, clients, and building occupantsSupport monthly/quarterly operations and mechanical reportingMaintain documentation of maintenance activities, incidents, and system modificationsCreate and update MOPs and SOPsParticipate in client meetings and property walkthroughsBudget & Vendor Management
Assist with budget development and managementTrack maintenance costs, purchasing, scheduling; identify cost-saving opportunitiesManage vendor relationships and service qualityRequired Qualifications
5-7 years in commercial building operations (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry)2+ years supervisory experience, preferably in facilities managementTrade school, union training, military service, or college degree highly desirableUniversal CFC EPA certification, Boiler License (or commitment to achieve within first year with JLL assistance)Familiarity with CMMS platforms, BMS and energy management systemsStrong customer service and communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manualsProblem-solving and decision-making under pressureLift up to 50 lbs regularlyUse ladders up to 30 feetFrequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and driveWork in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spacesWhat We Offer

Estimated compensation for this position:
105,000.00 – 130,000.00 USD per yearThis range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
