Assembly Process Engineer Job Number: 361689 Category: Mechanical Engineering Description: Job Title: Assembly Process Engineer Pay Rate: $45 - $65 per hour (Depending on Experience) Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Location: Devens, MA (ONSITE) Schedule: M-F 8-5pm Job Summary This role focuses on developing detailed assembly plans and work instructions for SPARC sub-system components. The ideal candidate will have experience working with large, complex mechanical structures, strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, system owners, and assembly personnel. This position is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and well-documented assembly processes that support the successful integration and testing of SPARC systems. Job Responsibilities * Develop comprehensive plans and work instructions for the handling, manipulation, and integration of SPARC sub-system components. * Collaborate with system teams to finalize assembly strategies, including tools, methods, safety measures, specifications, and sequencing. * Ensure proper tool and personnel access throughout each assembly step as defined by system owners. * Plan part movements for each assembly step, confirming no interferences with adjacent systems during handling or placement. * Create assembly work instruction packets for all SPARC sub-assemblies and integrate them into work orders to establish optimal assembly and testing sequences. * Support ongoing improvements of the work instruction and work order creation process, enhancing standardization, clarity, safety, and communication. * Work collaboratively with assembly engineers, tooling engineers, designers, coordinators, and on-site assembly personnel throughout the Tokamak Assembly process. Required Qualifications * High School Diploma required. * Minimum of 2 years of technical experience integrating large or complex mechanical structures (aerospace, chemical, industrial, etc.). * Experience developing or contributing to work instruction packet creation. Preferred: * Bachelor"s or Associate degree in a related field; experience in metrology, high-vacuum projects, manufacturing management software, NX, or heavy-lift operations involving components >10 tons. * Strong attention to detail and proactive safety mindset. * Clear communicator with the ability to express, critique, and refine ideas. * Ability to use data to support decision-making. * Strong preference for simplicity, clarity, and efficiency in planning. * Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments. * Alignment with organizational values: integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique. Physical and Work Environment Requirements * Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. * Comfortable working in environments with industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics. * Ability to perform tasks such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
