The PositionThe Opportunity

The Area Tax Manager plays a pivotal role in strengthening tax governance and strategy within the area. Working in close partnership with the Area Tax Director, this position bridges the gap between area operations and Headquarter-related topics. In addition, the Area Tax Manager collaborates with Group Tax organization on Headquarter related topics, including the tax setup of our two main business divisions or managing taxation related to Corporate and Group Functions (e.g., Treasury, P&C, M&A) or financial tax planning and controlling. 

Core Mandate The Area Tax Manager focuses on two strategic pillars: 

Governance & Control: enhancing area controls, overseeing tax compliance execution, and monitoring the effective tax rate (ETR) alongside risks and opportunities. ∙ Area Coordination: ensuring consistent application of Global Tax Policies and collaborating on their review and amendment. 

Enabling & Support: supporting the Area Tax Director, coordinating audits and projects, and fostering a network for sharing best practices. 

Group Tax Responsibilities

Partnership: Engage with Area Tax Directors with reference to HQ’s related issues with reference to Pharma Division, Diagnostics Division and Group Functions. Individual contribution is in particular expected in the following areas: Provide tax support for M&A, partnering, divestments, and financial forecasting / Lead tax-related projects, specifically focusing on changes in supply chain management / Support HQ-level governance, litigation, and coordination of Swiss Tax matters.

Efficiency & Technology: Drive operational excellence through tax controlling, KPI analytics, and digitalization.

Global Compliance Oversight: Supervise cross-border compliance requirements including GloBE, CbCR, DAC6, and DAC7.

Area Tax Responsibilities

Governance, Control & Operational Excellence: Tax Control Framework (TCF): Implement, review and enhance local tax processes to ensure robustness. Conduct risk and mitigation analysis, striving for operational excellence through digitalization and automation opportunities. - Tax Controlling: oversee the tax calendar and perform qualitative/quantitative analysis and dashboarding to monitor area performance - Compliance Oversight: Monitor the execution of tax compliance activities across the area to ensure timeliness and accuracy. 

Tax Audit & Risk Management: Lead the coordination of audit preparations and define the company’s positioning on key technical issues. Assist the Area Tax Director and Local Tax teams in managing active tax audits and litigations. Proactively assess and map tax audit risk scenarios to minimize exposure. 

Transfer Pricing & Business Partnering: Manage the lifecycle of intercompany agreements and support the setting, monitoring, and adjustment phases of TP policies. 

Tax Advisory: Provide technical analysis of complex business questions and draft clear guidance for Local Tax teams. Offer tax input and assistance to the Tax Operations Director and other HQ functions (Treasury, P&C, M&A). Support pre- and post-acquisition M&A phases. 

Leadership & Project Management: Sponsor, create, or lead global/area \"squads\" focused on specific tax topics or process improvements. Organize and coordinate area tax meetings to align strategy and execution. Facilitate connections across Local Tax teams to foster a culture of best-practice sharing and continuous learning.

Who you are

Education: Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Law. A professional tax certification (Tax Advisor, CPA) is highly preferred. 

Experience: 7 years + of experience in a multinational environment or a Big 4 firm, with a strong focus on international taxation and tax governance. 

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of International Tax principles, Transfer Pricing, and Tax Control Frameworks. Familiarity with tax technologies/ERP systems is a plus. ∙ Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in agile teams (\"squads\") and influence stakeholders at various levels.
