Responsible for day-to-day operations of both a multiuser, Zebrafish and aquatic frog facility as well as working in other laboratory animal colonies

Responsibilities*Daily operation and upkeep of the facility including feeding, monitoring water conditions and colony health, stock maintenance, and staff trainingCoordination of regulatory and compliance activitiesOversite to facility access, training of facility usersBreeding and stock maintenanceCreation and maintenance of SOPs, manuals, and novel techniquesDocument and Log new stocks from the nurseryDirect work of students and temporary staffTrack and compile nursery viability ratesPerform routine and non-routine facility maintenanceAssist facility users with routine facility operations and occasional experimentsEmergency availability: Occasional after-hours emergency availability to respond to health and environmental situations as they ariseRecord data, summarize, and analyze results using basic statisticsPrepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipmentMaintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental proceduresOther duties as assignedRequired Qualifications*Bachelor's Degree or equivalent level of education and related research animal experience. Two years of experience in providing direct care to aquatic species in a laboratory or equivalent environment.Able to function independently and show initiative in keeping up-to-date on the latest developments in Zebrafish husbandry. Able to work well with multiple facility users with varying levels of expertise, including students, fellows, faculty, and staffStrong skills in data management and organizationCertification of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science - Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician within 4 months of eligibility Desired Qualifications*Experience in direct management of an aquatics facility in a laboratory settingSpecialized training in aquacultureCertification of American Association for Laboratory Animal Science - Laboratory Animal TechnicianExperience with software used for data management, such as Microsoft Excel or other database softwareWork ScheduleMonday - Friday 40hrs/ some weekends/holidays

Background ScreeningMichigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
