Manages the daily swine husbandry within regulated facility guidelines and completes all record keeping on a timely and accurate basis in conjunction with team members. Oversee animal care, breeding, health, and welfare, and ensuring compliance, focusing on optimal conditions, electronic and physical record-keeping, training, and nutrition to balance animal well-being with organizational goals. Manages, trains, and supervises animal technicians, and maintains strict barrier integrity to prevent contamination. Responsible for implementing animal husbandry protocols, overseeing the breeding program, overseeing the daily animal care of the herd to maintain high welfare standards through strategic planning, and coordinating with veterinary staff to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, and regulatory compliance (USDA, AAALAC, Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) and Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals). • Animal Care & Production: Manage day-to-day husbandry operations, including feeding, cleaning, sanitation, enrichment, and documentation in barrier-maintained areas. • Breeding Programs: Directing all phases (breeding, gestation, farrowing, weaning, finishing), of the breeding program. Plan and execute breeding strategies to improve genetics and colony management. • Health Management: Partner with veterinary staff for health observations, treatments. Administer medications (under vet supervision), monitor health, and maintain biosecurity. • Biosecurity & Environment: Maintain strict barrier protocols, including showering in/out and PPE usage. • Documentation & Records: Maintain accurate digital and/or physical census, housing, and sanitation records, verifying data integrity. • Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, AAALAC standards, SOP, and protocols. • Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate with facilities management for repairs of equipment such as autoclaves. • Staff Management: Train, supervise, and mentor animal care technicians.

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) 3+ years of experience performing large animal husbandry in a regulated environment Strong understanding of animal welfare, veterinary care, USDA, AALAC standards, and GMP/CGMPs Strong understanding of animal health and nutrition Experience with breeding and genetic improvement programs Proficient with Microsoft 365 programs Nice to have qualifications Swine husbandry experience

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
Vacation: • 6.66 Hours Vacation, 3.33 Hours paid Sick time accrued per month for years 0-4. Sick time may be carried over year to year to a maximum of 80 hours. Health Insurance: Health Partners HSA compatible plan ($3,400 individual $6,800 family deductibles). 75% coverage once deductible is satisfied up to OOP maximums. SPP pays 80% of entire premiums. SPP contributes $100/month into HSA account on employee’s behalf. Optional non-HSA compatible plan available at additional employee cost. Eligibility beginning of month following 30 days continuous employment. Telehealth: HealthiestYou by Teladoc Health. Premiums paid by SPP, 100% free services available to all employees. Dental: Delta Dental Plan, 80% entire premiums paid by SPP. Eligibility beginning of month following 30 days continuous employment. Life/ADD: Paid by SPP, 1X salary up to $50,000. STD: Paid by SPP. 60% income begins day 7 (illness and injury) until 13 weeks. LTD: Paid by SPP. 60% income (maximum $6,000/month) up to age 65. Simple IRA: Similar in function to 401(K). Roth-Simple IRA option available. 3% salary match of employee contributions by SPP. Eligibility beginning of month following 30 days continuous employment.
