UVA Health Children’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider to join the Pediatric Critical Care team. Our group provides direct patient care services for critically ill children aged 0-21 with acute, complex, critical, and chronic illness in a 25-bed unit with dedicated medical and cardiac teams. We maintain an active congenital heart surgery, heart failure, and transplant program including extracorporeal support. The APP group manages patients collaboratively with all members of the critical care team. Ample opportunities exist for research, quality improvement, and programmatic development.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Advanced practice experience in a pediatric acute care clinical setting is strongly preferred. 2+ years of ICU nursing experience is also preferred.

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Work collaboratively with all levels of personnelMaintain active involvement in education, consultation, research and leadership initiatives throughout the department, organization, and professionClearly articulate scope of practice, and practice within those guidelines as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia and within the University of Virginia Health System

3) Clinical

Exercise independent decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and development of the plan of care for critically ill childrenIndependently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problemsEnsure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standardsSupport the evaluation and care coordination of patients  Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and procedural care

4) Leadership

Provide mentorship and education to students and staff membersExhibit leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The starting base rate for this role is $129,323.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
