About the RoleWe’re seeking a detail-oriented Union LOA Specialist to support leave of absence (LOA) and sick leave benefit administration for bargaining unit employees. In this role, you’ll review and process leave applications in accordance with company policy, union contracts, and state/federal regulations, coordinate communications with key departments, and maintain compliant records. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized, service-focused, and comfortable working with confidential information.
What You’ll DoAdminister Sick Leave & LOA: Review and process sick leave and medical leave applications (short-term and long-term) in alignment with policies, union contract language, and applicable regulations.System Accuracy: Ensure correct and timely data entry in the payroll/attendance system.Coordinate Communications: Notify and partner with Security, Training, HR, and employee departments regarding leave status and return-to-work updates.Inbox & Forms Management: Manage the Kankakee medical inbox, respond to inquiries, and process medical documentation promptly.Labor Proceedings Support: Participate in grievance meetings related to medical leave matters and attend arbitration hearings when medically related absences result in termination.Recordkeeping & Compliance: Maintain medical records, absence forms, and doctor’s notes in compliance with PHI and HIPAA requirements.Site Wellbeing Support: Assist the Kankakee Wellbeing Committee with monthly site-wide initiatives.Project Support: Assist the Global Benefits team with special projects and tasks as needed.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.2+ years in a customer- or employee-facing role (HR, benefits, payroll, union environment, or leave administration experience a plus).Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Preferred QualificationsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.Workday experience or familiarity with HRIS systems.Interview Process1–2 rounds with the hiring manager and one additional team member.Why Join as an Aston Carter ConsultantGain experience in a structured environment supporting a union workforce.Build HR/benefits/LOA expertise while contributing to meaningful employee support programs.Work LocationHybrid in Kankakee, IL: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote per week (flexible).Pay$25.00 per hour (W2).Job Type & Location
