Professional work ensuring compliance for existing government buildings and facilities with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), specifications and building codes and ensuring physical access by persons with disabilities to all government facilities, programs and services. Work requires knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in general construction materials, technology, and applicable building codes and regulations, for compliance with the ADA which is acquired through training and considerable on-the-job experience. Contacts with others require skill in understanding and influencing people and are important in providing customer services, including persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others' points of view that are required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. Work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and because of the changing priorities, or different situations, incumbents have the latitude to consider which of the many procedures or standards should be followed and in what sequence. Work is performed primarily remotely and fieldwork will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards which are known, predictable, and controllable. A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: Field Inspections + Conducts field inspections of existing state-owned facilities and properties to ensure compliance with the ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 or its successor code. + Inspects existing properties for ADA compliance and coordinates the timeline for remediation. + Coordinate with the Office of State Architect regarding ADA Title II compliance Investigates ADA complaints from citizens regarding state-owned facilities. + Documents compliance of ADA issues and submits reports to the Statewide Equity Office and Office of State Architect Advises State Staff + Advises State staff, consultants, and contractors on ADA policies and compliance. + Serves as the subject matter expert on the development and implementation of ADA Title II transition plans. + Stays abreast of new guidelines, standards, and requirements of the accessibility building codes and best practices in accessibility. + Prepares written documents and reports on the status of ADA compliance issues. Interpreting current codes and standards + Provides assistance in interpreting current codes and standards. + Provides technical assistance in developing facility project plans to bring existing buildings into ADA compliance. + Advises State staff on best practices, interpretation, and implementation strategies. + In collaboration with the Statewide Equity Manager - Accessibility, develops priorities, and project plans, and manages the SEO’s statewide transition plan efforts for facilities. + Facilitates a Statewide Community of Practice for Accessibility workgroup composed of state employees and members of the community.
