Actuarial Intern

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The primary role of the Actuarial Intern is to support the Actuarial Team with various actuarial functions including IBNR reserving, general pricing principles, trend analysis, and leveraging artificial intelligence tools.  The internship will provide the Actuarial Intern with exposure to core actuarial functions and opportunities to contribute to special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:

Support the Actuarial Services team in core, day-to-day actuarial functions.Assist in preparing data for the estimation of Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) reserves.Support the development of pricing models, carrier discount models and risk management strategies.Demonstrate strong attention to detail in collecting and organizing data.Assist in the preparation of actuarial reports and presentations.Perform basic statistical analyses and calculations under supervision.Utilize strong analytical and critical thinking skills in handling complex tasks.Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills in handling special projects as assigned.Participate in team and company meetings, including professional development sessions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Sciences strongly preferred;1-2 actuarial exams completed on SOA track strongly preferred;Prior relevant internship experience in the Benefits Brokerage, Consulting, or Insurance industry is preferred;Working knowledge of MS Excel is required (ability to use pivot tables, intermediate formulas, lookups);Effective analytical, math and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, strong decision making ability, confidence to make difficult decisions and excellent communication skills;

Strong organizational and analytical skills;Excellent attention to detail;Excellent troubleshooting, decision making and problem solving skills;Must have strong negotiation and persuasion skills;Must be a goal oriented self-starter;Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;Ability to work well independently and as a team member;Ability to multitask and successfully operate in a fast-paced work environment;Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines;Ability to follow through on and successfully execute tasks while adhering to specified quality standards;Demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service and maintain positive relationships with client contacts;Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word (intermediate) and Excel (intermediate);Proficiency in use of PC such as keyboard skills and electronic folder/file organization and management;Aptitude for learning internal systems, applications and internal workflow of the department;Must be able to effectively interact and deal with people at all levels inside and outside of the company.

WORK LOCATION

Work is typically performed on site at MMA East’s Conshohocken, PA office.

The applicable hourly rate for this role is $25.
