Actuarial Director
Ameriprise Financial has an exciting opportunity for an Actuarial Director to join our team! This individual will be responsible for developing, enhancing, operating, and documenting a variety of sophisticated actuarial models, as well as reviewing work completed by the team. The role includes performing actuarial, financial, and risk analyses and effectively communicating results across the company, including to management. The Actuarial Director will take on an expanded scope of responsibilities within projects, serving as a subject matter expert on assigned initiatives, and will provide leadership and guidance to two direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the team responsible for the VM-21 valuation and stat reserve process for other lines of annuity business. This includes calculating, analyzing, documenting, and communicating results effectively to leaders and peers across various functional groups.

Development of analytical tools to build understanding of VM-21 model results and assess change in VM-21 requirements. Act as subject matter expert with key stakeholders across the firm.

Heavily involved in Prophet implementation and enhancement projects supporting new products and changes in reserve methodology for annuity valuation. Develop reporting processes to support these changes.

Lead analysis of VM-22 requirements and develop analysis and models to support VM-22 requirements.

Drive various projects, including end-to-end valuation automation, etc. 

Review, build, and present exhibits for year-end reporting.

Validate, develop, and enhance business controls.

Review technical work done by other members of team or business partners.   

Assist with project planning within area and determine resource needs.

Provide direct people leadership to two actuarial staff. Manage performance, seek professional development opportunities for direct reports, and provide the coaching and feedback necessary to have a high performing team.

Participate in professional development to maintain actuarial credentials.


Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree with focus on Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or related disciplines

FSA/MAAA Required; 7+ years of actuarial experience

Strong written and verbal communication skills; positive relationship skills in working with colleagues; ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization

Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills

Strong technical skill set (Excel, actuarial modeling software) 


Preferred Qualifications

Prophet/Prophet Enterprise experience

Experience with statutory accounting and Principles Based Reserves valuation approaches

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $150,000 - $206,300 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
