Job Description

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees are expected to work consistently to demonstrate the mission, vision, and core values of the organization. 

The primary focus of this internship is to work on projects related to the following:

Unclaimed property under Accountant’s supervision:

Compile, reconcile, and maintain spreadsheets for unclaimed property items due for submission during the current fiscal yearHelp prepare letters to vendors/providers with unclaimed property (MS Excel spreadsheet maintenance and mail-merge in MS Word)Manage the inbox for unclaimed property and escalate questions as neededResearch discrepancies using Sage, check registers, and bank data as needed

Vendor maintenance under Senior Accounts Payable Specialist supervision:

Reach out to vendors to update our recordsInvoice data entry

Check handling under Accountant’s supervision (support for accounting assistants):

Preparing PDFs for checks printing according to the instructionsMatching checks with remittances and stuffing them into envelopesPerforming control procedures to ensure accuracy

Premium Billing tasks under Premium Billing Reconciliation Specialist:

Simple Payment Option set upMonitoring the Premium Billing email for the online payment receipts in case there are special instruction notes from membersCorrespondence letters to members printingAnalysis of discrepancy and error reports

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Currently enrolled in a two or four-year undergraduate degree programFocus in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred

Experience

 Experience working in an administrative and/or customer service-oriented environment preferred

Skills

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel(intermediate), or strong willingness to learn

Abilities

Genuine interest in the health care industryAbility to provide the highest level of customer service both to internal and external customers, with excellent interpersonal and communication skillsAnalytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detailAbility to handle confidential and sensitive information in a discreet and professional mannerAbility to work independently along with work collaboratively across the department and organizationAbility to prioritize tasks within an assigned projectEffective time management skillsFlexibility in tackling assignments of varying complexity

This internship will begin in late May and the duration of the internship program is 12 weeks. Please note that this is a hybrid working arrangement; some work will be done in our Portland offices and some remotely. Interns must live in Maine throughout the 12-week program.
