Accounting Manager/Supervisor
Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to oversee financial operations for multifamily and commercial properties. This role is based in Charleston, South Carolina, and focuses on ensuring compliance with accounting standards, policies, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in property accounting and a proven ability to lead teams effectively. Responsibilities: • Supervise and manage accounting functions for multifamily and commercial properties, including rent collection, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger activities. • Oversee cash flow distributions, funding, and capital calls to ensure timely and accurate execution. • Prepare and publish monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with contractual agreements. • Lead the annual budget process for operating properties, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational goals. • Coordinate annual audits and prepare financial statements for operating property audits when required. • Provide tax support by preparing fixed asset schedules and depreciation reports for operating properties. • Assist with property acquisitions and dispositions by reviewing financial documentation, supporting closings, and managing accounting aspects. • Address property accounting inquiries and provide solutions for both regular and ad hoc financial questions. • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and compliance. • Mentor and guide property accountants through regular coaching and performance reviews. Requirements • Extensive experience in property accounting, with a focus on multifamily and commercial real estate operations. • Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles and industry best practices. • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop and manage accounting teams effectively. • Proficiency in preparing financial statements, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. • Ability to manage budgets, cash flow distributions, and capital funding processes. • Expertise in supporting tax preparation and technical accounting aspects of acquisitions and dispositions. • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to address complex financial inquiries. • Commitment to continuous development through networking, education, and participation in industry organizations.
