AR/AP Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking an AR/AP Specialist for a contract-to-hire role within the nonprofit education sector. This position entails supporting the new team in the Accounting and Finance Department by performing essential accounting functions. The role offers a hybrid schedule and requires the individual to be onsite Monday through Thursday for the first four weeks to acclimate to the team and processes.

ResponsibilitiesManage the department email inbox and phone, assisting students with inquiries regarding grants, scholarships, and funds, ensuring proper allocation and making necessary adjustments to student accounts.Take ownership of communication between the department and students, responding to inquiries within 24 hours.Troubleshoot issues by reviewing past journal entries and figuring out solutions.Cross-train on accounts payable and receivable tasks.Process accounts payable invoices and ensure timely payments to vendors.Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and recording payments.Reconcile bank statements and financial records to ensure accuracy.Assist in preparing financial reports and statements.Maintain organized and accurate financial records.Communicate with vendors and internal departments to resolve discrepancies.Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.Utilize AR/AP systems for accounting tasks.Essential Skills2+ years of recent accounting support experience, ideally in roles such as accounting clerk, AR clerk, AP, or accounting assistant.Associates Degree in accounting or related field.Strong Excel skills, including ability to reconcile accounts, balance spreadsheets, and perform journal entries.Knowledge of debits and credits and ability to balance a checkbook.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience cutting checks.Experience in the higher education industry is advantageous but not necessary.Bachelor's Degree or currently pursuing one.Work Environment

Located in Troy, MI, the position offers a hybrid schedule with three to four days in office and remote work every Friday. The dress code is business casual. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.
