About the Position
As the Accountant Associate in our San Salvador office, you will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting payable functions processing vendor invoices, managing payments, and reconciling accounts to ensure timely and accurate financial obligations are met, requiring skills in data entry, vendor communication, and compliance with internal controls to maintain strong supplier relationships and accurate financial records. Core tasks include receiving and coding invoices, verifying approvals, resolving discrepancies, processing payments and preparing reports for management.
You will work closely with our local and corporate accounting team to ensure the accounting activity is being recorded accurately. This individual must be a self-starter, well organized, possess excellent computer skills, be able to multi-task and enjoy the challenge of taking on new and exciting opportunities.
Responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries to properly record all activity.
Prepare a detailed general ledger account reconciliation workbook to support the financial statements.
Ensure that the VAT, withholding, purchasing and other ledgers are accurate in order to support the monthly tax reporting obligations.
Responsible for preparing bi-weekly payment runs and ensuring all payments comply with the procurement policy.
Responsible for ensuring all accounting and payment documentation is executed and filed adequately.
Support the month end closing process by ensuring that assigned tasks are completed on time and the financials are submitted in a timely manner
Assist with annual audit work papers and audit report preparation.
Support with ad hoc analysis related to financial activity, budgeting, and payments.
Support the implementation and enhancement of internal controls
Communicate and coordinate with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, International Finance Operations, etc. teams at Chicago office.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
2+ years of progressive accounting or audit experience
Bilingual in Spanish and English, both written and oralCPC or CPA equivalent preferred
Public accounting firm or multi-site organization experience preferred
Ability to adhere to monthly, quarterly and annual department driven deadlines
Strong coordination / organization skills with attentiveness to timelines.
Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office products is required
Understanding of variance / trend analysis with actual/budget/historical results
Strong interpersonal skills – able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Responsible, dependable and possessing an exceptional work ethic
Experience in energy, construction, or real estate industry’s preferred, but not required
