DEFINITION:Under the direction of the Principal/Designee, this position serves as the athletic director and is responsible for the leadership, administration, and management of all athletic/activity/facility school site matters such as: assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to a school site interscholastic sports program; assisting with the selection of personnel; evaluating athletic coaches; assisting with the evaluation of certificated and classified employees; assisting with the selection of personnel; assisting with the evaluation of operations, policies, and procedures; assisting with the establishment and monitoring of the implementation of goals, objectives and priorities; developing, monitoring and evaluating site athletic budgets and expenditures; developing and implementing staff development; serving as a resource to administrators and interscholastic sports personnel concerning sports and recreation activities; other related functions as directed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements a comprehensive school site interscholastic sports program Plans, organizes and coordinates the athletic program, league scheduling, and special sports activities in accordance with District policies, regulations, and guidelines Negotiates with sports league officials concerning regular season and playoff scheduling, Hires and confirms all officials' contracts; Secures game workers for athletic contests and submits a list of names to the event supervisor for that contest prior to the event; Submits athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other workers to the Associated Student Body or Fiscal Support Services Division Assists in the establishment of the athletic program operational procedures, and in the activities and functions supporting home and away games, and in athletic-related special activities Prepares, reviews, monitors, disseminates, and/or audits the publications and materials prepared for distribution concerning athletic information Plans, develops, and coordinates a yearly athletic budget and equipment inventory including the selection of materials, equipment, and supplies used in the interscholastic sports programs; Secures and files the paperwork for equipment lease requests involving the athletic program; Authorizes athletic budget payments and assures fiscal accountability and positive monetary balances and ensures compliance with restrictions and reporting requirement of Associated Student Body funds and restricted donations while adhering to District policy and protocols for sound fiscal management; Certifies reports of income produced from ticket sales Assists site administration in the recruitment, selection, and supervision of interscholastic sport coaches, certificated staff, classified staff, and the Athletic Trainer; Advises site administration concerning interscholastic sports programs, special project programs and activities, and attends league and CIF meetings as appropriate; Ensures compliance with all CIF regulations Collects, files, and notices athletes and coaches regarding student eligibility as it pertains to the CIF physical cards and athletic code of conduct; Collects and maintains on file a properly completed physical card for every student participating in the athletic program; Coordinates the collection of rosters for program information; Distributes athletic training rules yearly to all athletic participants and collects and maintains on file a signed copy of student compliance to the Athletic Code of Conduct; Administers the Athletic Code of Conduct in a fair and consistent matter; Disseminates CIF materials and enforces CIF rules and regulations, including player eligibility Implements supervision of athletic contests as required by league and school administration Has a high visibility at athletic practices, contests, etc., in District and out Works with coaching staff and the Transportation Department to schedule all athletic departure times to ensure appropriate bus supervision; Facilitates travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams and coaches when competing in post-season competition Provides directions, oversight, and effective communication with the Human Resources Department to ensure compliance for athletic coaches' employment criteria; Maintains the confidentiality of information used in personnel issues and/or District functions Provides direction and oversight with game schedules, tournament participation, summer sports camps, transportation, assignment of officials, athletic clearances, final team rosters, and award programs; Coordinates the ordering and distribution of letters, chevrons, captain stars, etc.; Orders post-season awards Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements parent athletic information nights; Serves as a resource person and coordinator of all coaches; Serves as a liaison to athletic parent groups, attending meetings, and is aware while ensuring compliance with legal school fees as groups look to raise funds necessary to purchase additional equipment, uniforms, major capital projects, and repairs; Assists site administration with the mediation of the resolution of situations, issues, and/or concerns that may arise in the athletic program. • Coordinates gym and athletic field use for practices and games; Works effectively with the Facilities and Maintenance & Operations Departments as well as the custodian, and grounds worker, as it relates to facility maintenance, extra staffing needs, and the duties of the athletic equipment manager; Coordinates gym, building, and athletic field use with these Departments to maintain the District building use calendar
