4-H State Events OPS Position

4-H OPS Event Assistant 

Job Description:

Position is Temporary – May 23 through August 18 2025

4-H University will be the primary event responsibility however, this position is expected to support all State 4-H Event Operations Event Management tasks include reporting, evaluation, registration, event software engagement, general clerical tasks related to event management, sponsor engagement, providing onsite support, and other event related tasks as needed. Coordinate Youth Stadium Dinner for 300 youth and 50 adult 4-H Members during 4-H University. Some weekends and travel – iLEAD in Gainesville, June 7-10 (meals and housing provided, stay on UF campus), 4-H Legislature in Tallahassee, June 22-27 (meals, travel, and housing provided); 4-H University in Gainesville, July 27-31 (meals and housing provided, stay on UF Campus) Manage Event Promotional Plan through e-mail, social media, website, and weekly newsletters Provide event support in 4-H Online – membership and event software.

Day-to-day supervision of the intern will rest with the State 4-H Event Coordinator.  Office location is on the UF Campus at 2142 Shealy Drive, Gainesville, FL 32611

Internally controlled working environment, some outside events set up work based on event needs: travel required as needed.

 This position will complete most of the work during regular business hours 8am to 5pm.  Employee will coordinate schedule with events coordinator to ensure that they meet the required hours of their internship.  Schedule must be provided in advance to State Events Coordinator.  This is a paid position; the salary range is $13-14 per hour.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma

University of Florida Student currently enrolled

Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License, pass a level 2 (fingerprints) background screen, and all UF hiring requirements.  An online Child Protection Training Class will be required as part of employment.  Must be prepared to work May 15 through August 4. Internship is 20 hours a week excluding June 25-30 and July 31 to August 4, where additional hours may be required for events. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Past participation in 4-H is highly desirable but not required.  A career goal in Event Management or Public Relations is desirable but not required.  

Skills:   Good verbal and written skills, developing project management skills, specifically time, resource, and budget management; superior customer service and problem-resolution skills.  Must be a self-starter able to work in both a team and independent environment; strong attention to detail; able to interact and build relationships with all levels of management and clientele; skilled in prioritizing tasks.  Ability to work on and understand computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher). 

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a time-limited position.

Position requires the ability to work for prolonged periods of time at high levels of activity and the ability to stand for more than four hours per day, reading, listening, stooping, bending, and manual dexterity skills; skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing. Possible long periods of sitting at computer and lifting 50 lbs.
