200T Captain Licensed Mariner (II) Lead
Overview ***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** Under the direction of the Port Captain, the Lead Mariner is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the U.S. Army Large Tug (LT), at Kwajalein or Roi Namur Islands.; Directs all activities on an assigned vessel, including all deck functions and missions; and maintains all deck-associated equipment; Assists in determining parts, supplies and materials needed for efficient accomplishment of all assigned jobs and tasks; Assists the Chief Engineer in ensuring an effective preventative maintenance program is followed; Assists in the on and offloading of cargo and provisions; Maintain all shipboard safety, firefighting and lifesaving equipment to ensure in good working condition; Ensures all required logs are properly maintained and accurate; Performs other duties as may be assigned. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. + Operates and maintains the assigned vessel and barges; + Operates vessel with due regards to on time departures and safe navigation; + Maintains log book and all associated vessel paperwork and certifications; + Determines parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment; + Supervises a crew of up to ten people + Conducts on the job-training of assigned personnel as required; + Oversees the preventive maintenance program in conjunction with the Engineer or Engineman; + Maintains vessel charts and maritime publications; + Schedules crew assignments to include watch stations and vessel sanitation.; + Oversees the on and offloading of cargo and provisions; + Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required. + High school diploma or equivalent. + Preferred: + Degree from a certified college, university, or U.S. Maritime Academy.. + Certifications: + U.S. Coast Guard National Master Less Than 200GT with Towing Endorsement; Possession of a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Valid RADAR and ARPA endorsements. GMDSS certificate. U.S. Coast Guard Master of Towing Vessels. U.S. Coast Guard Tankerman endorsement. Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card; ability to pass a federal background check to obtain and hold a DoD Common Access Card (CAC); + Preferred: + U.S. Coast Guard STCW - Master 500 GT or More and Less Than 3000 GT Management Level license with Master of Tow endorsement + Experience: + Three (3) years’ experience working on vessels of equal size as a captain providing ship assist and towing barges + Skills: + Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required. + Strong interpersonal skills are required. + Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required. + Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required. + Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required. + Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required. + High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required. + Working Conditions: + Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. + Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). + Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. + The Worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. + The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. + Physical Requirements: + Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects + Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. + Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. + Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
